New access to e-resources from Royal Danish Library – soon you will need to log in to gain access

  • From Tuesday March 17 2026, Royal Danish Library will introduce a new access control system. As a university user, you will soon need to log in to the library system in order to access e-resources from Royal Danish Library. E-resources are online materials such as articles, e-books, databases and the like.
  • University users are students, researchers, teachers and other staff affiliated with the Danish universities and university hospitals.
  • You log in via WAYF – with your university login:

What does this mean for you as a university user?

  • You need to log in to the library system in order to access an e-resource from Royal Danish Library. This also applies when you are on campus, on the Eduroam wireless network, or if you are on a VPN connection.
  • Login happens via WAYF when you see the login page from library.au.dk or soeg.kb.dk.
  • If you have saved links, they will no longer work, due to the link structure to the e-resources that is changing.

What do you need to do as a library user before April 27, 2026?

  • If you have not already registered as a library user at Royal Danish Library, make sure to register via WAYF.
  • Be sure to update links to our e-resources that you may have saved as bookmarks, links in teaching materials, links in reading lists, links shared on Brightspace, links in reference tools and the like.

Which links do you need to update by April 27, 2026 - and which not?

Links that need an update

Links that do not need an update

Update saved links that contain the following in the URL: “…ez.statsbiblioteket.dk….”DO NOT update saved links that start with the following: “https://soeg.kb.dk/permalink…”
DO NOT update links in reading lists created in the Leganto tool on Brightspace

How do you update your saved links?

  • Go to library.au.dk or soeg.kb.dk and log in to the library system via WAYF.
  • Search for the e-resource.
  • Find the correct link to the e-resource - as shown below (a).
  • Click COPY LINK TO CLIPBOARD (b).
  • Insert the copied link as a replacement for the link you may have saved as a bookmark in your teaching material, on Brightspace or similar:

Need help?

If you have any questions feel free to contact the library.

Of course, you are also welcome to contact your local AU Library.

Not a university user?

I am not a university user – will I be able to access e-resources in the future?

  • Private users will still be able to access most of AU’s e-resources by using the desktop computers at the AU Libraries or Royal Danish Library at Victor Albecks Vej. Private users will also be able to access the e-resources via the KB Guest network at Royal Danish Library at Victor Albecks Vej, but not via the Eduroam network at the AU Libraries.

More information about the switch to our new access control system

I usually use KB Links in the databases, will they still work?

  • Yes, KB Links will still work – but you will probably be directed to the login page of Royal Danish Library more often to start with.

I usually log in with my library login or MitID – can I still do this?

  • Once you have been registered as an AU user via WAYF, you can choose to log in with your library login or MitID. However, it is important that you log in with WAYF at least once every three months so that we can verify that you are still an employee or student at AU.

If I bookmark the new links, do I have to log in every time I click on them, or can the browser remember me?

  • You must log in at least once per browser session per day. It will vary from browser to browser how long it can remember you.

I can no longer access articles in PubMed – what is wrong?

Timetable for the switch to our new access control system

March 17, 2026

We are introducing new access control system for e-resources from Royal Danish Library.

All links to our e-resources will change, and you must log in to our library system to view the e-resources.

The access control system applies to all university users affiliated with AU.

March 17 to April 27, 2026

You have to search for the new links from library.au.dk or soeg.kb.dk.

During a transition period, access will be available both via the new links in the library system and via any saved links in, for example, bookmarks, reference tools, syllabus lists, etc.

April 27, 2026

We are closing the old access control system and old links will therefore no longer work.

As a university user, you will be able to access the e-resources by logging in via WAYF at library.au.dk or soeg.kb.dk.

Please note: The above timetable may change if, during the testing phase from now until March 3, it proves necessary to postpone the launch of the new access control system.

Why does Royal Danish Library introduce new access control for e-resources?

  • With the new access control, we are future-proofing and strengthening security when it comes to access to the university library's e-resources.
  • Royal Danish Library will be able to track the use of the e-resources more effectively, giving us improved data to negotiate licenses with publishers and providers.
